An Aria A Day #117
ANASTASIA LEE
‘Psyché’
by Émile Paladilhe
Piano Narelle French
Billboard charting artist, contralto Anastasia Lee sings Paladilhe’s haunting ‘Psyché’ from her home in Wisconsin, USA.
Recently, Anastasia has collaborated with Josh Groban and the Italian tenor, Micheal Castaldo.
Composed in 1887 and immortalised in the 1930s by Dame Maggie Teyte, ‘Psyché’ is perhaps the best-known of Paladilhe’s many works. A careful listening to the freedom of the ‘spoken’ style of ‘Psyché’ reminds us that composers such as Debussy owe a great deal to earlier composers such as Paladilhe.
