An Aria A Day #126

‘Love’s Old Sweet Song’
by James L. Molloy and J. Clifton Bingham
Piano Narelle French

11th September, 2020

Soprano Leslie Martin-Nightingale shares the tender melody of ‘Love’s Old Sweet Song’ surrounded by an audience of photographs of loved ones. Leslie has performed in past Opera Queensland productions including ‘The Magic Flute’, ‘The Pearl Fishers’, and ‘Andrea Chénier’, the opera featured in yesterday’s An Aria A Day.

It is believed that this Victorian parlour song, which is often misidentified as ‘Just a song at twilight’, was first performed in 1892 by Antoinette Stirling.
