An Aria A Day #130

OLIVIA CRANWELL
‘Cäcilie’
by Richard Strauss
Piano Benjamin Burton

15th September, 2020

‘Cäcilie’ by Richard Strauss is the second in a four-song cycle of works set to poems by the German dramatic critic and journalist Heinrich Hart. Two romantics at heart, both men declared the works, the poem and the song cycle, as gifts to their respective wives.

Soprano Olivia Cranwell performs the Lied from the Sydney home of pianist Benjamin Burton.

The Lied features the recurring lyric “Wenn du es wüßtest” “If you but knew what you mean to me”, reminding us to hold our loved one close during what has been a difficult year.
