An Aria A Day #131

‘Le couteau’
by Nadia Boulanger

16th September, 2020

This evening we present the art song ‘Le couteau’ by French composer Nadia Boulanger. Reminiscing on the song’s sentiment that “it’s better to have loved”, Donna shares the song from her studio in Sydney.

As a conductor and teacher Boulanger notably taught many of the leading composers and musicians of the 20th century, including Aaron Copland and Quincy Jones.

Opera Queensland audiences may recognise Donna as a regular contributor to our pre-performance talks, from her leading roles in Rossini’s ‘Cinderella’ and Mozart’s ‘Così fan tutte’, and as musical director, flautist and singer alongside Jason Barry-Smith’s “Banjo” Paterson in our ‘Waltzing Our Matilda’ touring production.
