An Aria A Day #133

TIFFANY SPEIGHT
‘We’ll gather lilacs’
from Perchance to Dream
by Ivor Novello

18th September, 2020

Helpmann and Green Room Award winner Tiffany Speight sang the role of Johanna in our production of ‘Sweeney Todd’ in the early 2000s. From lockdown in regional Victoria separated from her family including her nonagenarian Grandmother the soprano shares ‘We’ll gather lilacs’ by Welsh composer Ivor Novello.

The song first appeared in the hit musical romance ‘Perchance to Dream’ and has since been recorded by the likes of Stuart Foster, Anne Ziegler, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Julie Andrews.
