An Aria A Day #137

DEBORAH CHEETHAM AO
‘Vissi d’arte’
from Tosca
by Giacomo Puccini
Piano Toni Lalich OAM

22nd September, 2020

This evening we head back to Melbourne to join Deborah Cheetham AO and Toni Lalich OAM for ‘Vissi d’arte’ from ‘Tosca’, our first aria from Puccini’s turn-of-the-century opera.

Deborah and Toni would like to dedicate this piece to “all our colleagues who live in the service of music and who believe in its power”.

Short Black Opera was established in 2009 as a national not-for-profit opera company devoted to the development of Indigenous singers. In 2014 Artistic Director, Yorta Yorta woman Deborah Cheetham was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia for “distinguished service to the performing arts as an opera singer, composer and artistic director, to the development of Indigenous artists, and to innovation in performance”.

Joining Deborah on piano is Short Black Opera Company Manager and Vocal Coach Toni Lalich OAM. Toni was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia last year for her “service to the performing arts, particularly music”.
