SOFIA TRONCOSO, JESSICA LOW, KANG WANG
Scene 1
from Gilda
by Stefan Gregory and Anne-Louise Sarks
Piano Alex Raineri
On the eve of returning to perform at QPAC, we present our final performance of An Aria A Day.
Opera Queensland currently has six new Australian works under commission and it gives us great pleasure to present a scene from Act 1 of ‘Gilda’, a new work by Australian artists, Stefan Gregory and Anne-Louise Sarks. Rethinking Verdi’s ‘Rigoletto’ through a contemporary lens, the opera figures Gilda as a woman who, rather than sacrificing her life for a man who cares little for her, chooses life. The scene is performed by members of the OQ Vocal Ensemble, Jessica Low and Sofia Troncoso, alongside Australian-Chinese tenor Kang Wang and pianist Alex Raineri.
