An Aria A Day #22
ALEXANDRA FLOOD
Manon’s Gavotte
from Manon
by Jules Massenet
Piano Narelle French
This evening’s performance is dedicated to Nick Day, Head of Queensland, Commercial Australia, DATACOM.
For close to 20 years, Opera Queensland has partnered with DATACOM, and for all of this time, Nick has been central to the partnership. Thank you Nick and congratulations on your retirement.
Soprano Alexandra Flood dazzled Opera Queensland audiences most recently in 2019 with her recital in partnership with pianist Alex Raineri. Alexandra is currently in lockdown in her Paris, the same city where composer Massenet and his character Manon resided.
By Act 3 of Massenet’s 1884 opera the young girl Manon has already loved, lost, and learnt all too well the pleasures that life in Paris has to offer a woman of wit and beauty. After attempting to return to a more modest life with her first and only true love, she once again descends on Paris society. Dazzling admirers and onlookers, here Manon extols the virtues of embracing beauty and youth to the full.
