An Aria A Day #36
TIMOTHY NEWTON
‘Vecchia zimarra’
from La bohème
by Giacomo Puccini
On the edge of death Mimì says that her hands are cold, so in order to buy her something to keep her warm, the philosopher Colline decides to sell his old overcoat, to which he sings farewell. Brisbane-based bass Timothy Newton brings us this sad farewell to treasured possessions, not unlike performers who have bid farewell to the stage during Covid-19 lockdown.
