An Aria A Day #50
VICTORIA LAMBOURN
‘Dudarai’
by Maria Egorovna Rykina
Arrangement by Victoria Lambourn
Former Opera Queensland Young Artist Victoria Lambourn performs her own arrangement of the popular Kazakh folk song ‘Dudarai’. Victoria sings in both Kazakh and Mandarin in this performance.
The song is very popular in Kazakhstan and China, but it is rarely performed elsewhere. Until now, she has only ever sung it once in Australia and is excited to share this beautiful piece with audiences all over the world.
The song is a standard of modern Kazakh folk music, telling the story of a love that transcends national and religious boundaries. The title of the song is said to come from Rykina’s pet name for the Kazakh man in question, Dudar, referring to his curly hair.
