‘The Mikado’ needs little introduction.
The ninth of Gilbert & Sullivan’s fourteen operatic collaborations, the opera premiered at the Savoy Theatre in London in 1885 and is still one of the most popular musicals performed today.
Dominic Walsh sang the role of Nanki-Poo performing the aria ‘A wand’ring minstrel I’ when he made his debut with State Opera of South Australia last year.
Last month Dominic was set to make his debut as Cavaradossi in ‘Tosca’ and Alfredo in ‘La traviata’ for Opera Brava in the UK, which like all live performance have been postponed. Dominic says he is counting his blessings and fortunate to be accompanied for this performance by his husband, Dr Edgar Chan, a Clinical Neuro-psychologist with the NHS working on the frontline of the Covid-19 recovery.
