An Aria A Day #65

‘At the River’
from Old American Songs
by Aaron Copland
Piano Bradley Moore

12th July, 2020

From New York, where he has been in lockdown for many months, Paul Whelan performs ‘At the River’, the fourth song in Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, Set 2.

‘At the River’ is an arrangement of the beloved 1865 hymn tune by Robert Lowry. The popular piece is widely performed, including at the memorial concerts for Copland and for Leonard Bernstein.

Soon we’ll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
