An Aria A Day #94

MIRUSIA
‘Panis Angelicus’
by César Franck

10th August, 2020

‘Proud Queenslander’ Mirusia is known many around the world as ‘Angel of Australia’, a nickname given to her by Dutch violinist, André Rieu. Here she performs ‘Panis angelicus’, the penultimate strophe of the hymn ‘Sacris solemniis’ by Saint Thomas Aquinas. ‘Panis angelicus’ (‘Bread of angels’) has often been set to music separately from the rest of the hymn, most famously in 1872 by César Franck. Mirusia studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music under Gregory Massingham who performed in week 2 of An Aria A Day on 17 May. Music produced by Pete Dacy and David Cameron.
