Maia Andrews

Biography

Maia Andrews is an award-winning soprano hailing from Sydney. She recently starred as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème as part of Opera Australia’s 2024 National Tour, performing in over 20 theatres across New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, drawing widespread praise from audiences and critics alike.

Operatic roles of note include Pamina at Oper Oder Spree, Gretel with the Jenaer Philharmonie and Anne Frank at Theatre Altenburg Gera. During her tenure at Theatre Altenburg Gera, Maia also performed in numerous opera galas, including “Freistatt schöner Geister”, “Die ganze Welt ist Himmelblau” and “Kriminal-Tango”, showcasing her versatility with excerpts ranging from Verdi to Weber, which were recorded and broadcast by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk to great acclaim.

Maia is a graduate of Thüringer Opernstudio, holds a Master of Opera degree from the Hochschule für Musik Franz Lizst Weimar, a Graduate Diploma in Music (Opera Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and a Bachelor of Music/Arts from the University of New South Wales.

In 2022, Maia had success with Pinchgut Opera’s production of Charpentier’s Médée, where she appeared as Une Italienne at Sydney’s City Recital Hall. An alumna of the Opera Queensland Young Artist Program, Maia performed in Sunset Opera (2023), understudied the role of Fiordiligi in Patrick Nolan’s celebrated production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte (2023), and makes her Brisbane Bel Canto debut in Petite Messe Solennelle.
