Biography
James is an Australian-American conductor, multi-instrumentalist, orchestrator, and record producer.
With a particular eye for the development of new musicals, his work has been seen on Broadway, in theatres across New York and the USA, in London, and throughout Australia.

(original Australian company); seasons for Joe’s Pub at the Public Theatre NY; Cape Fear Repertory Theatre North Carolina; the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma; The Crown Uptown in Wichita, Kansas; La Boite Theatre Company; Goodspeed Musicals Connecticut; Berkeley Repertory Theatre; Queensland Theatre Company; and QPAC, among many others.
Arranger & Orchestrator: The View UpStairs; Peter And The Starcatcher (also additional music composer); Clinton; Bananaland; Guys and Dolls 2015 US tour; Twelfth Night; Joh For PM!; Carols In The City. Concert and recording orchestrations: Caroline O’Connor, Alexis Fishman, Tyce Green, Naomi Price, Max Vernon, Michael Longoria’s single Like They Do In The Movies and his forthcoming Motown-inspired album, and a collaboration with pianist Alex Raineri which was released in 2026.
Keyboards: Broadway, Off-Broadway and tours across the US and Australia, and also as bandleader for jazz singer Mitch Winehouse (father of Amy!).
