Biography

Samuel Dundas appears with all the Australian opera companies and New Zealand Opera, and on the concert platform is regularly heard with the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Queensland, Tasmanian and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

This year Samuel returns to the Perth and Brisbane Festivals and Victorian Opera as Cave (Eucalyptus), Opera Australia as Horatio (Hamlet), Queensland and West Australian Symphony orchestras in Beethoven’s 9th symphony and Tasmanian Symphony in Haydn’s Harmony Mass.

Recent major role debuts have included the title role in Richard Mills’ Galileo, Wolfram (Tannhäuser) for Opera Australia, the Count (Capriccio) for Victorian Opera, and Donner (Das Rheingold) for Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Samuel’s operatic repertoire ranges from Aphron (The Golden Cockerel) for Adelaide Festival; Marcello (La Boheme), the title role in Voss, Dancairo and Morales (Carmen) for State Opera South Australia; title role in Ned Kelly (Styles) for Lost & Found Opera  Perth; Papageno (The Magic Flute) for New Zealand Opera; to Count Carl Magnus Malcolm (A Little Night Music) and Ebenezer Scrooge (A Christmas Carol) for Victorian Opera.

His many roles for Opera Australia include Marcello, Guglielmo (Così Fan Tutte), Prosdocimo (The Turk in Italy), Papageno, Dr Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Belcore (L’Elisir d’Amore) Silvio (Pagliacci) and Sid (Albert Herring).
