Simon Kenway
Biography
Simon Kenway is an established and highly respected orchestral and operatic conductor and vocal coach.
He has held posts as Principal Chorus Master of Opera Australia, Musical Director for Opera in the Vineyards, Opera by George and Opera Under The Stars in Broome, and Artistic Director of Pacific Opera. Simon is currently Conductor, Chief Vocal Coach and Musical Director of the Sydney Conservatorium’s Opera School and new undergraduate music theatre course.
In Australia and abroad, Simon has conducted all the major Australian symphony orchestras, West Australian Opera, State Opera South Australia, Opera Queensland, as well as the Australian Ballet, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Aldeburgh Productions in the UK, the Australian Youth Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and many festivals.
Simon is a piano and opera graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, furthering his studies at the Royal College of Music, London, and in Europe with Norman Del Mar, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Pierre Boulez, Sir Simon Rattle and James Lockhardt. As a vocal coach he trained with the leading repetiteurs from Covent Garden, English National Opera and Paris Opera. Simon was Chorus Master for Chelsea Opera Group and Artistic Director and Conductor of University College Opera, London.
