Biography

Principal artist at Theater St Gallen, Switzerland, from 2010-2015, Wade Kernot’s repertoire included the Forester (The Cunning Little Vixen), Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Zuniga (Carmen), Père Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Wotan (Siegfried), Truffaldino (Ariadne auf Naxos), Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Méphistophélès (La Damnation de Faust), Sarastro and Sprecher, (Die Zauberflöte), Frank (Die Fledermaus), and Comte des Grieux (Manon).

Wade has also performed with New Zealand Opera, West Australian Opera, Opera Queensland, State Opera South Australia, Pinchgut Opera, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Germany, Opéra de Lyon, Dunedin Symphony (Beethoven Symphony No. 9), Christchurch Symphony (Beethoven Mass in C), Orchestra Wellington (Faure Requiem and Rachmaninov The Bells), and Auckland Choral Society (Messiah).

Wade’s most recent engagements include the role of Banquo and the premiere of Call of the Huia for New Zealand Opera, Dr. Grenvil (La Traviata) with Wellington Opera, and Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust with Orchestra Wellington.

Wade was a PwC Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist at New Zealand Opera, a semi-finalist representing New Zealand in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World and the Neue Stimmen in Germany, and a runner-up in the Lexus Song Quest. Wade is now Lecturer in Voice at the New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University.
