Biography
Sarah’s opera directing credits include Rusalka (The Opera Conference); La Traviata (Opera Queensland, State Opera South Australia, West Australian Opera and Opera Australia); Lorelei (Victorian Opera and Opera Queensland); and Pas à pas – Nulle part, Into the Little Hill and O Mensch! (Sydney Chamber Opera in association with Carriageworks and Sydney Festival).
Her theatre directing credits include The Importance of Being Earnest, No Pay? No Way!, Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Perplex, Mrs Warren’s Profession, Marriage Blanc, Money Shots and Ruby Moon (Sydney Theatre Company); A Very Jewish Christmas Carol, The Truth and Straight White Men (Melbourne Theatre Company); Blaque Showgirls and SS Metaphor (Malthouse Theatre); The Popular Mechanicals (State Theatre Company South Australia); and Kreutzer vs Kreutzer (Australian Chamber Orchestra).
Sarah was Resident Director at Sydney Theatre Company in 2013, Richard Wherrett Fellow at Sydney Theatre Company in 2011, and Affiliate Director at Griffin Theatre Company in 2009. In 2011, she won a Sydney Theatre Award for Best Direction for her production of The Ugly One at Griffin Theatre. Her 2018 production of Lorelei was nominated for both the Helpmann Award and the Green Room Award for Best Direction of an Opera. The production received five Green Room Award nominations overall, winning Best New Australian Work and Best Design. In 2025, Sarah received a Performing Arts WA Award for Outstanding Achievement by an Interstate Artist for her 2024 production of Rusalka.
