Sebastian Maclaine

Biography

Sebastian completed his Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium in 2008. There, he featured in a number of productions such as the title role in Britten’s Albert Herring, Valetto in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, and as Autumn in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen.

Sebastian has had a wide variety of musical experiences to date. At the conclusion of his degree, he joined the popular Australian touring and recording group, The Ten Tenors. With the group, Sebastian performed extensively in 16 countries and recorded a number of albums.

In 2017, Sebastian was nominated as the recipient of an Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. He graduated from the RNCM in 2018 with a Master of Music (Intensive).

In 2018 Sebastian featured at the Glyndebourne festival, where he appeared in the chorus for Giulio Cesare, Pelléas et Mélisande and Vanessa and also as the cover of the High Priest in Barrie Kosky’s Saul.

He subsequently moved to Hildesheim, Germany to work for Theater für Niedersachsen as a member of their chorus and soloist for numerous productions.

Sebastian returned to Brisbane last year and performs regularly with Opera Queensland’s Vocal Ensemble. He is currently performing in Opera Queensland’s School’s Tour production for senior school students as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème and also in the production, The Frog Prince (pictured), for primary students. Later in the year, he will be singing the role of Fenton in the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program’s production of Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor by Lehar, in collaboration with Victorian Opera.
