Eva Kong

Biography
Australian/Korean soprano Eva Kong has appeared in leading roles throughout Australia. For Opera Australia, she has sung the title role in Madama Butterfly, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Gilda (Rigoletto), Laura (Luisa Miller), Princess Linetta (The Love for Three Oranges), and Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore). Her portrayal of Laura earned her a Green Room Award. Additional appearances for the company include Liù (Turandot) and High Priestess (Aida) for Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, Madama Mao (The Nixon Tapes), and Flowermaiden and Esquire (Parsifal).
Born in South Korea, Eva madeher debut as Violetta (La traviata) in Seoul and later sang the title role in Manon with Korea National Opera. Now based in Brisbane, she has appeared regularly with Opera Queensland in roles such as Donna Anna, the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), and Kumudha (A Flowering Tree). Eva received a Green Room Award for Best Female in a Supporting Role for her commanding performance as Madame Mao in Nixon in China with Victorian Opera. Other notable roles include Pamina (The Magic Flute), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), and Amina (La sonnambula) for Pacific Opera, and La Charmeuse (Thaïs) in concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO).
On the concert platform, Eva has taken the soprano solos in Carmina Burana (MSO) and Iris dévoilée (Sydney Symphony Orchestra), as well as in Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, Saint-Saëns’
Requiem, and Britten’s War Requiem. Recently, Eva performed as a Principal Soloist in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with Queensland Ballet.
